Project

Re-Coded is an open-source, collaborative, educational installation. The code is found on Github. The project was initiated by Zach Lieberman for School for Poetic Computation (SFPC) and was created collaboratively by the community. In Recoded, SFPC students and alumni studied the work of Bridget Riley, Muriel Cooper, James and John Whitney, Rosa Menkman and Vera Molnar as well as other pioneers of computational media and interpreted their projects using modern tools like OpenFrameworks and Processing.

Design

The community submitted around 50 animation sketches which were then displayed on two 9ft x 9ft LED walls. Each sketch was shown side by side with code showing how it works. We created a zine with information about the artists that were used as inspiration available for people that came by the installation.
