NYU Ability Project: Marilyn's Ventilation Mask
Marilyn’s Ventilation Mask was a team-based client project for NYU Tandon class Developing Assistive Technology through the NYU Ability Project. I worked alongside classmate Karla Ruiz (NYU IDM) and our mentor Professor Anita Perr (NYU Steinhardt). Our goal was to help client Marilyn improve her Oxygen mask fit to achieve safe oxygen levels. After years of different strategies she was still dropping at times into emergency levels overnight. We iterated on past material exploration and dove deep into different communities that also needed to adjust their oxygen mask fits. It’s important to emphasize co-creation as an essential framework when developing assistive technology. We would iterate on Marilyn’s feedback, past experiences and collaborate on her own personal solutions. Check out more about our process and the NYU Ability Project.
